All right, you've got your assignments for the upcoming semester! What's next? The first thing you want to do is make sure you know where you're going. Most schools post campus maps on their website.
Familiarize yourself with them, know where the buildings are. The locations on your schedules might be abbreviated so you may have to look them up to see where they are located.
Next, you will be given access to the respective course portals for the classes you're assigned to. The course portals are hosted by Learning Management System applications and you will be able to find the announcements and important dates on there.
It is your responsibility to let us know when classes aren't occuring and for you to plan your schedule around that. The school's IT department may take a while to get you access to the course portals, it happens.
But you can still jump ahead by asking the professor for a copy of the course outline when you send them your introductory email, if contact with them is permitted by the school.
You're also welcome to ask your student for a copy. That brings me to my next point, introducing yourself to the student and instructor. In the Resources page at the end of the training, you will find the email templates for students and instructors for some schools.
Again, if you're allowed to reach out to your student and the instructor, please send them a message before the class starts to introduce yourself as a service provider who will be providing accommodations.
Remember never to disclose the identity of the student to the instructor. The Ontario Human Rights Code prohibits the disclosure of anyone's identity to other people.
If the professor asks who it is, just tell them you're not allowed to release that information and they can contact the school's accessibility office if they have any further questions.
