Strap yourselves in because this is the most extensive module we have in the program. Where should we start? Ah yes, before you can use it, you'll have to download the application.
Someone in HR should have sent you the software and if you haven't gotten it yet, please reach out to the Habitat Learn admin at once. Now, the handy thing about logging in for all things Habitat Learn is they all share the same username and password.
So whatever you've been given for Beehive is the same information you'll use to get into your Messenger Pigeon. Next up is the session IDs. They can be found on Beehive, under the details for your respective session.
Remember to use the right one because they are all specific to a particular date and you'll have to send the Messenger Pigeon link to your student 24 hours before the class starts.
Now, once you're in, the first thing you want to do is make sure you have the right speech-to-text model chosen especially if you plan on turning on the AI. One thing I want to emphasize is that the AI is not perfect and it's not mandatory for you to use it.
That's why we place an emphasis on continuously improving your typing speed and accuracy. You may take up more time trying to correct what the AI has produced and fall behind in the lecture.
To change the speech-to-text model, go to the settings (it's the little gear icon on the left column) and select Speech-to-text. The chosen default is usually Speaker Detection and my suggestion is to use the turn speaker detection off function while you're captioning so you don't spend more time editing out the inaccurate speakers.
That particular mode has a tendency to add a new speaker to every new sentence. So you can imagine how much extra work you'd have to do.You can test your computer's microphone by playing a YouTube video or podcast and turning on the AI to see if Standard 1 or Standard 2 works better for your system. it really depends on the computer you're using.
You just have to remember to switch the speech-to-text model every time you open your app for a new session because the software doesn't save your choices since ever session is unique.
Another fun feature of MP is that you can send messages to your student through the in-built chat function. It opens a chat window on the left column. The autoscroll feature, as its name implies, keeps up with the new text that's being produced.
You might want to turn it off if you have the AI on and you want to revisit some previous text for correction. Otherwise, you'll be bouncing back and forth between the most recent text and what you actually want to correct.
